Onda Mundial Announces New Releases And March Residency Line-Up

An international community of Latin electronic music gathers in a promising artist collective and content platform aimed at developing and empowering dance culture.

Onda Mundial, a Mexico based community of artists, creatives and enthusiasts of Latin electronic music and culture, kicks off 2020 with a series of exciting new releases. Most recently the boundary breaking label released Disorden y Progresso Vol 1.

Disorden y Progresso Vol 1 is the first released compilation from the imprint with the goal of releasing three more to complete the series. The new release has brought together four amazingly talented Brazilian artists and producers of several generations; including EXZ, DJ Malka,Yule & JGB, and Ralany Sinara. Together they instantaneously create a chaotic and diversely vibrant, vital power during a critical time in music and history. The title is a playful reinterpretation, and subversive look at the national motto of Brazil (Ordem e Progresso). Each artist who appears on this first edition, is convinced that through electronic music a voice can be raised against everything that afflicts the Planet. The more difficult things get, the more stimuli for union and creativity. The release dropped in January with Volume 2 due out in March.

By releasing new music from emerging and known artists and producers within the Latin American dance circuit, Onda Mundial is setting out to create an iconic catalog that faithfully represents contemporary sounds from the region. Adding to the releases this February Onda Mundial will drop a two single EP from Klik y Frik, a new project from the masterminds of Frikstailer, Rafa Caivano and Lisandro Sona. The EP is comprised of “Momoto” a track that maintains introspective elements and almost cinematic progression – a great downtempo track perfect for relaxation or just chillin’. And “Salamanquesa” sonically is closer to cumbia rhythms that appeal to the clarinet heard in 1950’s cumbia orchestras. But with synthesizers that maintain the interest of contemporary dance floors hits.

Inspired from the duo’s residency with Onda Mundial at their club Galera in Mexico City, Rafa reflects, “El momoto es un ave y la salamanquesa es una lagartija, ambas muy bonitas.

[ The momoto is a bird and the salamanquesa is a lizard, both are beautiful. You have to Google their scientific names and check out the photos. And the idea was to anchor the launch in Tepoztlán. It was one of the reasons we came to México, it was the first place where we stayed before we found a house in Mexico City. And the other was our sound engineer and great friend Andrés Oddone. It was also the place we were going to or coming from a lot. And finally, we had the opportunity to film our video in Tepoz – and everything made more sense. It has to do with all of that and honoring the endemic species of the area.]

The EP, ‘Momoto’ is due out February 21st and will be available everywhere you stream music.

The following week, Onda Mundial is due to release a new title from Barda (AKA Cecilia Gebhard), ‘Paseo Telúrico.’ The DJ and singer-songwriter from Buenos Aires, Argentina, creates deep organic electronic textures, which invites you to dive into and dance between the fusion of machines and nature, through songs, grooves, bass and textures that make up several planes that create a sound habitat for the dance floor.

[Conceptually ‘Paseo Telurico’ is a mix of synthesized and organic sounds. There is a little guitar, but used unconventionally to explore textures and distinct crosses. It also references to the Earth, natural habitats and the mixture between machines and nature. It has collaborations from Andy Andean, from Chile, and a remix from Orieta Chrem, from Peru. The three themes are a mixture of different cultures, and of organic textures with machines.]

The new release ‘Paseo Telurico’ is due out February 28th and will be available everywhere you stream music.
